Monaco's D-500 Plus Radio Alarm System will continue to provide reliable transmissions of alarm and trouble signals from installed transceivers when the rollover on January 1, 2000 occurs. The non-compliance issue involves the date displayed on some screens and subsequent reports. How your system will be affected will depend on two factors:

486 DX/100 and Pentium Processor CPUs

No hardware adjustments will be required at all for any CPU with a 486 DX/100 MHZ or a Pentium processor for the Year 2000. Customers operating at Version 4.0, Revision F (or later) Central Program with a white key and customers operating at Version 3.5, Revision E with a black key are fully Y2K compliant from a software standpoint

Other versions of the D-500 Plus software will display and print out the year 2000 as 100 on a few reports and card displays. This is due to the use of an imported Microsoft subroutine which presents the year in a nonstandard format. This malfunction in display and printout, however, will not affect normal operation of the system.

From a software standpoint, customers with a white key will need to upgrade to Version 4.0, Revision F (or later) Y2K Update Kit (P/N 207-817-00) to resolve this problem. Customers with a black key will need to upgrade to Version 3.5, Revision E Y2K Update Kit (P/N 207-815-00).

If the RFM Modem for the system was purchased prior to 1991, it may also be necessary to upgrade the RFM EPROM to be compatible with the upgraded Y2K compliant central Program.

486 SX/33, 486 SX/50, and 486 DX/66 CPUs

Other 486 CPUs (SX/33, SX/50, DX/66) are not Y2K compliant. Customers with these CPUs may elect to upgrade their CPU using our Repair by Replacement Program to achieve hardware that is fully Y2K compliant.

The D-500 Plus software operating on the 486 SX/33, SX/50, or DX/66 CPU will also display and print out the year 2000 as 100 on a few reports and card displays because of the imported Microsoft subroutine which presents the year in a nonstandard format.

If the RFM Modem for the system was purchased prior to 1991, it may also be necessary to upgrade the RFM EPROM to be compatible with the upgraded Y2K compliant central Program.

Ramifications of not upgrading the CPU or the software include:

  1. A Date Problem. When the roll over time of 0001, January 1, 2000 occurs the CPU's internal clock will reset itself automatically to January 4, 1980. However, the date shown on the D-500 Plus display will be correct until such time as the system is rebooted. When the system is rebooted, the date resident in the internal CPU clock will update the radio alarm system date resulting in an incorrect radio alarm system date.

    The work around for the date problem is to manually reset the date. We recommend that the internal clock and date be corrected as soon after midnight as possible on the 1st of January 2000. The D-500 Plus Program provides the means to correct the internal clock's date/time. From the Operator's screen choose F3 EDIT MENU, then choose ALT F3 DATE/TIME. Type in the correct time and date, then choose F2 SAVE. This will update the internal system clock.

    Delaying the resetting of the date will not affect the proper function of the system. Its only effect will be that the date shown on reports and on the screen will be incorrect after a system reboot.

  2. A Leap Year Problem. The year 2000 is also a leap year. All D-500 Plus systems will function normally for leap years unless there is an attempt on February 29, 2000 to change the date or time. We recommend that if the time needs to be updated that it be done on or before February 28th or on or after March 1st. If you absolutely need to change the date or time on February 29th, contact our Product Support Group for assistance. The year 2000 is the only leap year which is affected in this manner. All other leap years will function normally.

    The work around for this problem is to not change the date or time on February 29th, 2000.

  3. A Three Digit Year Problem. The D-500 Plus software will display and print out the year 2000 as 100 on a few reports and card displays due to the use of an imported Microsoft subroutine which presents the year in a nonstandard format. This malfunction in display and printout will not affect normal operation of the system, and could be lived with if desired.

386 CPUs are not Y2K compliant and are no longer supported. Customers with 386 CPUs should upgrade their CPU using our Repair by Replacement Program to achieve hardware that is Y2K compliant.

The D-500 Plus software operating on the 386 CPU will also display and print out the year 2000 as 100 on a few reports and card displays because of the imported Microsoft subroutine which presents the year in a nonstandard format.
